New Year’s Resolutions Heading Into Q4

I'm doing the 100 Day Rosary Challenge

With about 80 days left in 2026, Don Kowalewski grades his New Year’s resolutions heading into Q4 — the wins, the zeroes, and the new habits he’s adding. From rehabbing his knee daily and going ‘Sugar Free Don’ to journaling, reading, power weekends, and the 100-Day Rosary Challenge, it’s a brutally honest scorecard of a year in progress, plus new Q4 additions from restarting Homework for Life to chasing 155 pounds.

New Year’s Resolutions after 2/3rds of 2026

We are two-thirds of the way through 2026, so it’s time for a reality check on my resolutions. Am I crushing them? Not quite. But I put everything into a spreadsheet, which is equal parts procrastination and facing my failures head-on. From hitting 100% on work focus and bedtime reading to total misses on daily writing, here is my mid-year progress report.

Detroit Coffee Passport – Drifter Coffee

Here’s another gift from Kathy that shows why surrendoring in the “gift giving winning” contest was the right move. I can’t do what Kathy does. The latest?  For Father’s Day, she got me the Detroit Coffee Passport.  It’s cool! And cute! And perfect for… Continue Reading “Detroit Coffee Passport – Drifter Coffee”

2023 Hairvolution (Meaning I’m Getting a New ‘Do)

Now’s as good a time as any to give a little progress update on my hair. Recall on January 11th I looked in the mirror and said, Don, ya just don’t look good with short hair. High and tight isn’t for you. Time to… Continue Reading “2023 Hairvolution (Meaning I’m Getting a New ‘Do)”

Fountain of Youth, Part 1

A new person recently hired in at my company at exactly the right time for the health of my skin. It was January. The middle of a very cold winter. I had just started a new skin care regiment and got Harry’s face scrub,… Continue Reading “Fountain of Youth, Part 1”

Lent, Part 48

Today is Day-1 of my 48th Lent. Well, it might be my 44th …hard to believe I was giving things up in those early year, but let’s just say it’s Lent #48 for me. I love Lent. For me, it comes at a perfect… Continue Reading “Lent, Part 48”

The Year of the Blame Sticker

Early in 2021 I swore off all news. I promised myself, other than a quick skimming of the headlines and scrolling through Twitter a couple of times a day, I wasn’t going to use any brain cells or invest any more emotional capital into… Continue Reading “The Year of the Blame Sticker”

Resolutions 2020

I credit Matthew Dicks for my a-ah moment of 2019 – discovering storytelling and The Moth. Matthew Dicks is a storyteller. Yes. That’s a thing. But I didn’t know it until I heard him on the Art of Manliness Podcast. For a guy like… Continue Reading “Resolutions 2020”

Admit It, Staying Motivated is Difficult

Do ya ever get into a rut? Wake up. Start the day. Maybe you nailed your good morning routine. Maybe you didn’t and hit the snooze alarm, but you did get the stuff done you absolutely had to get done, like make breakfast for your kids.… Continue Reading “Admit It, Staying Motivated is Difficult”

Donnie Jalapeno Reigns Supreme! And spunkybean and The Bachelor Recaps

When I leave this world, if there isn’t a patron Saint of Salsa, I hope I’ll be canonized in that category. Why? Because my Donnie Jalapeno salsa is that good. Since about October, I’ve been hammered with requests for it, and since my salsa makes the… Continue Reading “Donnie Jalapeno Reigns Supreme!
