Gonna Get my Podcast Life In Order

There’s too many Podcasts. I love Podcasts and I want my Podcast library to be like a 1970s “book library” that someone might’ve had in their home. That respectable 70s (or 80s) “book library” would’ve had a full Encyclopedia set, quite a few Stephen King novels, and then novels and nonfiction books that would give a visitor an immediate sense of what said book-collector was into.

Cooking? Parenting? Romance? World War 2 or Vietnam?

And while nobody can or will ever see my Podcast list, I feel the same sense of pride in that my “Library” should be a reflection of …me!

Like everyone, I oversubscribe and “Follow” too many shows, but some time ago I realized, just because I “Subscribe” to a Podcast doesn’t mean I have to listen to every episode. Like, I love Peter Attia’s Drive Podcast, but I don’t need to listen to his Episode on Cancer or Concussions.

But my Podcast library is full of shows that I no longer find interesting or that have Pod-faded (term for a Podcast where the host and producer just lost interest). And some I never listen to because my tastes and interests have changed. It’s also missing many I’d like to start listening to.

This is the stuff that gives me anxiety and the feeling I’m not getting things done. Well, by golly, by the start of 2024, I’m gonna get this fixed.

My Podcast List (in order of most-hours listened)

  1. Drew & Mike Show
  2. The Jim Rome Show
  3. Deep Questions
  4. How Did This Get Made?
  5. The Art of Manliness
  6. The Father Mike Schmitz Catholic Podcast
  7. The Tim Ferris Show
  8. The Genius Life
  9. Fareed Zakaria GPS
  10. The Moth
  11. Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend
  12. College Football Enquirer
  13. Nature is my Jam

That’s my cleaned-up starter list. Gone are The Rosary Cast (I’ll listen during Lent), So You Want to be a Writer, Fat-Burning Man (I feel guilty I never bought his book or any of his stuff), View from the Cheap Seats (the Sklar brothers are never as good on this Podcast as they are when they guest host for Jim Rome), Authentic Obsessions, and a few others.

But what my Podcast library needs is a few more quick hitters. I recently heard about a daily puzzler which I think would be good for my brain, but The Puzzler might be too difficult for me. I also think something like something from Pushkin would be interesting and make my brain work a little. And Stuff You Missed in History Class. And I need more business and sales stuff. Oh, and tech stuff. For example, I want to know everything AI can do to make my life better.

I hope you have as much excitement planned for the rest of your year as I do.

Any suggestions for really smarty smart or super interesting Podcasts?
